A leaking water heater is one of those problems that doesn't wait around. What starts as a slow drip can turn into water damage fast - and on top of that, an aging unit that's leaking is usually one that's not up to code either. That was exactly the situation here.
We pulled out the old leaking unit and replaced it with a new 50-gallon American Standard natural gas water heater. But the swap itself was only part of the job. We also installed a new drain pan, new water supply flexes, a new gas flex, and added a drip leg to the gas line.
That drip leg detail is worth pointing out. It's a small fitting that collects moisture and debris before they can reach the gas valve on the unit. A lot of installs skip it. We don't. It's one of those things you don't see until something goes wrong - and we'd rather it never goes wrong at all.
Everything was brought up to code before we called it done. Hot water back on, no leaks, no loose ends. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every water heater repair and installation we do here in Lubbock.
If your water heater is leaking, making strange noises, or just not keeping up like it used to - don't sit on it. These things tend to get worse before they get better.
